It's worth noting that we are three years away from the one hundredth anniversary of the beginning of World War I; nearly one hundred years since the war to end all wars began.
It is also worth noting that the last living link to this great war has just left us. Pause, from time to time, and notice the history around you. We are not the orphans of history, or even the last children of a great civilization in it's death throes; we are merely the most recent page in the story of man's long journey, and perspective is vital if we would understand our role in this story.
Question of the day: if WWI was the war to end all wars...why have we had so many since then? What is the true seed of man's wars?
WWI was when the "shot heard round' the world" began with the assination of the Arch Duke. This war had many countries to join. Germany got screwed over the war with the reparations. And the SuperPower U.S. didn't join til towards the end with the sinking of the Lusitania and other factors. The only logical reason why I find there is always war is because some scientist dude, you might have heard of him before, said "So long as there are men there will be wars." - Albert Einstein.
ReplyDeleteI do kind of agree with the above comment, that "So long as there are men there will be wars," because men are sinful, and there is always war, even if the wars do not involve guns and such. And also, there shall never be peace till Jesus returns and creates a new heaven and a new earth. A reason for the still continuation of nasty wars is again, man's sin, their lust and their greed, driving them towards continually wanting more power.
ReplyDeleteIf sin is the cause of war, is there any hope for peace?
ReplyDeleteIf not, why do we care?
If yes, how do we overcome this problem? Can we?
I'm not sure there can be any hope for perfect peace without Jesus, even in the smallest of situations...due to sin. So maybe its like when we strive to be like Jesus. We know we're never going to be perfectly like Him, but striving for that good can make us better, not perfect, but better. So when we strive for peace, we may never obtain perfect peace, but this is a good that we should strive for. Think about it. Does striving for good bring disaster or "betterness"?
ReplyDeleteThere will always be wars, but there will also be times of peace as well. Sure it seems war is always going on in some part of the world, but we know at least that war hasn't consumed us entirely. There are still times of joy, love, peace that haven't and can't be eliminated by the presence of war. So yes, because of plain human nature, there will be war and struggles, but along with that, there will also be hope, for how could our whole existence have lasted this long when there has been war since the creation of man and yet we are still here living, prospering, and even making plans for the future? Furthermore, because God is in the equation, his mere existence grants us hope. We mustn't forget divine providence and the assurance that we are being looked after. As long as there is man, there will be war, but as long as there is God, there will be hope, and that is the most important thing.
